Osunyai ‘Secret Tarangire’A new location for Osunyai-a new life for the dry season! We are pleased to announce that Osunyai Wilderness Camp has been invited into Tarangire National Park. Osunyai will be based on the edge of the Wilderness zone within Tarangire National Park opening for the dry season 2011 at a wonderful location close to Silalie wetland and the prime elephant and buffalo habitat. The camp itself will be set beneath glorious mature acacia trees facing the setting sun, affording a classic bush camp back drop, in the heart of big game country. Tarangire National Park is famous for its dense population of elephant and large concentration of herd animals during the dry season months when migrating herds of wildebeest and zebra return to Tarangire for the fresh waters of the Tarangire River. Osunyai and close by Silale are fantastic habitats to view predators and prey such as Lion and Leopard, Buffalo and Elephant in an unsurpassed setting. We are incredibly excited to be able to introduce the new location for Osunyai, especially as the new camp affords such rich game viewing potential. The charm of our present Osunyai Wilderness Camp will be retained for the new setting with some small changes to the lounge and dining areas which will revert to a more traditional tented camp style. Two very large individually designed tents form the nucleus of the camp, where guests can enjoy delicious meals tailored to individual requirements and dietary preferences, sample wines from southern Africa and beers from the region, as well as the normal selection of soft drinks, juices and spirits. During the heat of the day or as the sun goes down, the lounge tent is there for relaxing and enjoying as an alternative to the private tent verandahs and small 'chaise loungue' gazebos or as a meeting place for larger groups of friends to meet and discuss the excitement of the days events. Afternoon tea is normally served either in the cool of the lounge or under the shade of an acacia tree. As one would expect from a Wildlife Explorer tented camp, the accommodation tents-of which there are 8 and all en-suite- are furnished with all the creature comforts of a luxury semi-permanent tented camp, whilst retaining the necessary balance and feel of our mobile heritage. Presently, we are able to offer Game drives from the camp in open vehicles during the daylight hours into the abundant game country of Tarangire National Park. All of the larger mammals are present within Tarangire as well as a diverse number of bird species. “Our weekend away at camp was livened up when a small herd of Elephants charged around the corner of the sand river intent on ousting our children merrily playing in a small temporary water hole they had spent the morning digging!” Game walks accompanied by our own armed walking guide who will unfold the minutiae of the surrounding eco-system as well as provide necessary security when encountering larger game. Game walks can be as long or as short as our guests dictate and can start directly from Osunyai. There are a number of Fly Camp locations within suitable driving or walking distance from Osunyai itself, which can be made available to small groups wishing to experience the intimacy and excitement of an overnight stay in one of our non-traditional fly camps. All of our activities listed above are available without pre-booking. Close liaison with the Driver Guide is suggested to plan a stay at Osunyai to take advantage of the extreme game viewing experience available from the camp. |
